ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Road Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs W. H. Beetham (chairman), Brown, McKenzie, Wardell aud M'Leod.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved that steps be taken to legalise the road to Fotairau given by Mr A. Johnston. Mr Augustus Peterson waited on the Board to request them to do something towards acquiring a road line to his section.—The Chairman offered to interview Messrs Joseph and Wright on the sabjecc when be goes to Wellington. Mr J. Colquhoun waited on the Board and requested that the standing bush on the road through Kohikutu be fallen.—lt was decided that when Mr Colquhoun is prepared to fall the bush on both sides of the road, the Board will have tbat on the road line felled.
A request from Honi Pobotn that the Board would agree to reduce the width of the road to Motukaka from one chain to half a chain was declined.
It wusrasolved that the preliminary expenses in connection with the Upper Opxki loau proposal (rejected) be recalculated so as to charge one half of tbe expense against the two rating areas, and tbe other half against the upper area only.
The Clerk was instructed to take a poll for the Te Mara-Kiriwhakapapa loan on Saturday, December sth; It was decided thut a sum not exceeding £lO be expended in repairs on the old Brancepeth road leading to the property of Mr A. Vennell.
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Government on the subject of special rates on Crown lands now B olu.
The report of the Finanue.Committee wss rend and adopted and accounts passed for payment. It was decided that the special rates for Northcroft's road a'ndiemridge extension loans be- now struck.
The Engineer's report was read hnd adopted.
It was resolved that Mr Falconer bd informed a misunderstanding took place as to toe agreement he made relative to the removal of the gate on FernritJge road extupion. On the motion of Mr M'Leod it was rosolred to rescind the resolution uussed on April 4th relative to gates on roads.
The next meeting of the Board was fixed for 19th December.
