EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday. There were present -Mr J. B. Blair (Chairman), Mess's F. H. Frrser, W. W. McChidle, J. Young, (i. Beethani, A. W. Brown, Rev. J. Pateraon, and DrNewman, M.H.R. Messrs Brown and Fraser, who lately visited Kaitawa to report as to the question of school site, gave their decision in favour oi a nine-acre section under offer, as being superior to the other and better calculated to serve the requirements of the district. Their report was adopted. An additional pupil teacher was granted to the Uteki School, and it was agreed that Miss Miller be transferred tbith-r from Pahintun.

Miss Stuart was appointed pupil teacher at Pahautanui, at the request of the local Committee.

Power was given to the Chairman to arrange as to the fencing works at Kaitoke.

A supplementary grant of £5 was made to the Carterton Committee lor fencing. An application from Mauriceville to convert the schooljiibrary into a public library to be vested in Trustees, and to be always free to school children, was approved, but it was pointed out that there would be no power to make a charge to the outside public for the use of books, though donations could b° received. Tenders were received for works as follows :—New School, Whakataki, J. Russell. Additions—Shannon, C. S. Loughton ; Dalefield, Thos. Mnnday ; Petoue, Collie and Weber.
