NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
Statutory Meeting,
The statutory meeting of the Wairarapa North County Council was held in the Chambers yesterday. Pwsent—Crs Beetlum, Guild, Smith, Cockburn-Hood, and von Redtn.
Cr W. H. Beetham was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing twelve months.
A high compliment was paid to Cr Beetham bj Cr Guild for the manner in which he had discharged the duties of Chairman during the several years he had held that position.
Cr Beethdin returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him in reelecting him. The whole Council was appointed a Works and Finance Committee, three t3 form a quorum. The Chairman was appointed to represent the Council on the United District Charitable Aid Board.
The Chairman and Crs Stuckey and Cockburn-Hood were elected to represent the Council on the Wairarapa District Hospital Board. It wasjresolved that Mr G. Beetham be requested to represent the Council on the Wellington Benevolent Society.
An application from Mr Edwards for permission to remove his slaughtering premises to another spot was granted.
The Engineer was instructed to have Mr Meredith's fence atMungapeu removed in accordance with the terms of his letter.
It was resolved with regard to an application of Mr P. Johnson to purchase the road frontage to section 18 ic Eketahuna, at the price first fixed, " ohat the concession as to price could not be made."
Mr F. G. Moore was appointed Presiding Officer under the Licensing Act. It was decided that notice under motion re repairing theTenui bridge and the Akiteo ferry question stand over till next meeting. The Clerk was instructed to request Mr Beard to prepare the conveyauce of the road through section BIS from Mr George Moore to the Council. The Engineer and Cr Smith were empowered to fix a site for the new collgate on the Eketahuna-Tenui Road, and report at the next meeting of the Council. A number of tenders were received for street improvements in Eketahuna ■ but as they were above the estimate of the Engineer it was decided to call for fresh tenders.
