The election for mayor to-morrow will be a close contest in this town. The scrupulous have as usual to fight the unscrupulous, and it is only on this ground that we doubt the issue. Mr Feist's friend 3 will have to exert themselves to ensure his election and the return of a tried and trustworthy man o* business at the head of the Council. The political prestige of Mr Hogg would be considerably lowered if by any chance his colleague Mr Pownall were defeated, and we can well understand that no election tactic will * he spared to carry the party victory. This of course is the secret of the shameless and reckless manner in which Mr leist has been assailed by our local contemporary. Whatever may be the result of the election the ratepayers are indebted to Mr Feist for coming forward, somewhat against his personal inclination, to give them an opportunity of recording their votes for a candidate who, if elected, will undoubtedly serve faithfully the best interests ol the town.
