Sir, —In reference to your report of yesterday's meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association, I beg to contradict Mr Guild's statement respecting the date that draught horses take their age from, Ist August. Their age dates from the day they are foaled. Thoroughbreds dale from the lnt August, and 1 will defy Mr Guild to contradict it. Nil Desperandum had no right in the show ring to com* pete against horses four years old and over, because Mr Watson says himself bis horse is not four year pld until the 4th of next December. Ojt this ground I claim the first prize, gold medal, , President's prize, and Mr Hessey's special prize, and distinctly forbid the Society awarding the above prizes to Nil Desperandum before referring my contention to thoroughly competent) judges. If they do I shall sue the Society for the amount of the prizes, as it distinctly Btates in the printed catalogue " four years old and over." Mr Watson said at the meeting I was daft. He is the last man who should throw stones at another's misfortunes, as he, after the judges awarded a first prize to his hoase, showed unmistakeable signs of raving madness.
