MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A general meeting of members of the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Club Hotel yesterday afternoon, about twenty members being present. The chair was occupied by Mr A. W. Cave (president). The Treasurer reported the total receipts for the year to be £527 10s. Mr Lowes said the preliminary balance sheet presented snowed that tbe receipt*} for the year were £lO5 more than those of last year. The expenses were just abou'i the same, whilst the prize list was £4l more tran last year. One bad feature of the statement was that the arrears of subscriptions and special prizos were very unsatisfactory. The Society had been more liberal than last year, and as a result they had not tho cash balance which might bare been expected. The show, however, both as regards quality and quantity of exhibits, had eclipsed anything before held in the district. The Secretary had prepared a very interesiing analysis of the exhibits at the Masterton and Carterton shows, from which it appeared teat the Masterton show w« decidedly the more successful. If the Carterton Society was treated by Masterton tbe same as Masterton was treaeu* by Carterton he was sure that this end of the district would have far and away the better show.
A communication was read from Mr W. Hercock, claiming the President'* prize for best entire horse over four years with his horse Hero, together with Mr Hessoy's prize, as Mr Watson's Nil Dcsperandum, which took first prize, was not four years of age. Mr Lowes : The catalogue states that the horse must be over four years of age, and Mr Hercock appears therefore to be right in his contention. Mr Watson : But the catalogue might be a mispiint. There was no class for between three and four years ol age. The man miistbe daft. . Mr Guild, after some discussion, moved that Mr Hercoek be written to stating that his claim cannot be allowed, as the regulations provide that the age shall be taken from the Ist of August in each year. Mr J. McGregor seconded.—Carried.
Mr Meredith stated that at a meeting some two or three years ago it was suggested that the Association be ineorporated. At that time it was thought they were not in a position to take such a step. In view of the success of the late show, however, he thought they should seriously consider the advisability of incorporating. The status of the Society would thereby be considerably added to. He would ask the members of the Association to think the matter over, and be would give notice of motion on tho subject at next meeting. Oa the motion of Mr Lowes the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight to allow of the Secretary preparing an authentic statement of accounts.
