Thero was a very small attendance of ratepayers at the meeting convened yesterday by the Mayor of Carterton (Mr JEL Fairbrother) to tako into consideration tho ways and means of meeting the payments for tho now manual fire'engine. Tho representative (Mr G. A. Fairbrother) stated that the yearly install ment of £4O was now three menths overdue, and all the funds in hand were £25. Alter a good deal of discussion on the matter, it was finally deoided that Messrs E. Feist, Thos. Proctor and E, L. Wakelin should constitute a committee to canvass the district for the purpose of seeing what support was likely to be forthcoming to meet the annual pay* ments, and if tbere was not sufficient support given it was thought that the engine had better be returned.
