Th£ Pahiatua County Engineer has resigned because his employers, against his advice, accepted $ tender from & contractor wh,o had on $ former oftcaajon done sl.oyeply work. Our Pahiatua contemporary sympathises with the contractor, and if such a man is to be debarred fro*-, getting further work from the Council for such a reason. It is pretty cleat 1 that Pahiatua is a paradise for contractors who scamp work 1 The only person who protected the puohel
interests in the case to which we refer was clearly the Engineer, who apparently is too good a man for the community in which he resides. Perhaps Mr Fraser, the officer to whom we rafer, will realise that honesty is not the best policy, and that to command the confidence of the Council which has employed him it is necessary for him to hold a candle to the demon of a contractor who turns out bad work.
