THEATRE ROYAL.

The Jacottte.

Foley's Comedy Company relumed last night with the "Jacobite" and " Paddy in India." Both pieces were really well staged. As "John Duck, " Mr Foley shines with liiß characteristic humour, his passages with "Widow Pottle," (Miss Beaufort) being very witty. " Lady Somerford " (Miss Laura Bloom) and " Major Murray " (Mr Carl Lieder) made an effective pair of lovers with '• Sir Richard Wronghton" (Mr R. D. Campbell) as the proverbial thorn in their sides. The plot is good, and the dialogue bright and effective throughout, the principal characters forming some very striking tableaux The "Jacobite" was followed with " The Happy Man," a most amusing extravaganza, the scene of wbicn lies in India, which allowed scope for the very picturesque costumes u<ted last night by the Company. The " Rajah " (Mr Carl Lieder,) is a most miserable man, whose only cure lies in t£e possession of the shirt of a happy man, whe is eventuallv discovered by the oharming " KoKet" (Missßeaufort)in the droll Irish soldier "Paddy" (Mr J. Foley). The latter is by persuasion and threats to exchange robes with the "Rajah." The whole is very different to the usual burlesque staged by travelling companies, being elaborate in its details and having a genuine sparkling dialogue running through three pretty scenes. Mention must be made of Miss Liurie Bftom'a idea of the caste of "Foxi Futn" the Grand Vizier to the Rajah. The remaining characters were admirably filled by the rest pf the company. A word of praise is due to the oharming appearance of the ladies in the eastern scene. The performance is to be repeated for to»cighfc only, and is well worthy of a visit. Mr Foley is recognised for the genuine entertain-* ment he affords to the public.
