The Tire Fiend. Pioton, Tuesday. The Ship Hotel (Ohas. Godfrey, lioeusee) was destroyed by fire at two o'clock this morning. The origin is unknown. The occupants had barely time to escape. Tho building was owned by Mr Meavi", of Melbourne. It was insured for £250 in the Victoria office and the furniture for £4OO in the Norwich Union. A small stationery and barber's shop adjoining wa« also destroyed. It was insured for £GO in the London, Liyerpool and Globe,

The Westport Star learns from a recent visitor to Christchurch that the New Zealand Shipping Go. let a contract to the Grey Valley Coal Uo. for 47,000 tons of coal. Tire is Dwells Dunedin, Tuesday. At 1.80 tbiß morning a fire broke out in an eleven roomed building in Moray Place known as the Star Cafe, and occupied by Mrs McKinnen, and owned by Herman Dadd. It commenced near the kitchen. A portion of the building was gutted Insurance. LBOO in the Nowicli Union, and L2OO on the lurniture. Economic LI2OO. A little over L2OO covers the damages to the buUdiug.
