Palmirston N., October 12. A six-roomed house, occupied by a man named Boon, three miles from Palmerston, was burned down jeiffierday. There was no insurance. Supreme Court Wanqanci, October^. In the Supreme Court, Gray, for stabbing and wounding, received eight months imprisonment with hard labour. New Plymouth, Ootober 12. The Supreme Court resumed thil morning, when the Crown Proaeoutor entered a nolle prosequi in tfe case of John Hunter, charged with rape, the case upon whioh the jury were disagreed on Saturday. This completes the criminal business. ▲ Jump for Liberty. Palmerston North, Ootober 12. A man, arrested at Shannon this morning, jumped off the train near Longburn, and escaped into the bush. Latbb. The man who jumped from the train was oaptured after a chase of a mile or so. His name is Joseph Valentine Burke. He was arrested on a warrant of commitment to the New Plymouth Gaol for two months for disobeying an order of the. Court. ▲ Defective Hospital* Inveroahoill, October 12. The Southland Hospital Trust have decided to apply to the Government for to build an addition to the hospital, Dr McQregor hayiqg reported that the oldest part of the present structure, besides being badly ventilated and inconveniently arranged, is surgically insanitary; an opinipn which the Resident Surgeon endorse*, stating that he has a difficulty in treating the cases,
