The quarterly sitting of the Masterton District Licensing Committee was held at noon today, when Mr William Eyerett was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Beyond the passing of accounts, no business was transacted.

The licensing bench at Ballarat East has ordered 40 hotel out of 67 to be closed, in accordance with the local option poll. The Bench stated that there had been much difficulty in making the selection without injustice, but the; had done the best possible under the circumstances, though probably hardship would ensure to some.
The Trehair-Osborne Concert Party i« announced to appear in the Masterton Theatre Royal on Thursday and Friday, 15th and 19th cf October. The company will comprise Mies Trehiar Osborne, an accomplished English contralto who was touring the Colonies with Mr Santley, the famous baritone, Miss Maggie Johnston, who has a wonderfully sweet voice, Miss Nellie Parsons, who is a charming singer, Miss Gardner an accomplished pianist, Mr J. W. Nairn, who has a tenor .voice of great compass, and Mr J. VV, Kihier, who possesses one of the finest bass voices in the Colony. The company is a thoroughly talented one, and a rare musical treat is in store for the public ot Masterton.
