PARLIAMENT.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL,
TO-DAY'S SITTING
[By Telegraph] (Per United Press Association),
Wellington, Friday,
The Council met at eleven. On the motion for the second reading of the Appropriation Bill, the Hon Mr Miller denied that the managers cf the Council alone were to blame for the fact that no compromise had been arrived at on the Land Bill. On the contrary, the representatives of the Council had done all in their power to arrive at a settlement. He mentioned this as he considered it only right the country should know the facts of the case. It was often stated tbe Council placed itself in antagonism to the House, but he believed he spoke the sentiments of the whole Council when he said that branch of the Legislature ever entertained the feellgot responsibility of its duty to the country. He was convinced thOouncil never opposed the othen>ranch of the Legislature out p* factious sj irit.
