London, September 17. Messrs Alexander and Co, corn brokers, of old Broad-street, who recently failed, in Court yesterday offered a composition of 6s 6d in the £.
September 18th. The Parnell Party have formed a young Ireland League. Col. Desmond, who took up Stuart Cumberland's challenge for £IOOO to prove the existence of occult influences, now declares the "Mahatmas" forbid the contest.
Thorpe, of Brisbane, defaulter, who was arrested on a charge of heavy embezzlements from Peck Brothers, was sentenced to ten years.
Mr P. J. Foley, M.P. for Connemara, who was recently summoned before the City Court by the Wandsworth Guardians for neglecting to support his wife, who is in the workhouse, has undertaken to provide maintenance, and the charge has been withdrawn.
Newton, a solicitor, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for abduction.
The Grenadier Guards, who arrived at Dover from Bermudas on 28th July, have returned to their quarters in London, and will take their place on the regular Guards roster. Sir Charles Russell, M.P., declares that the Liberal Party will welcome a conflict with the House of Lords on any question.
The Tipperary tenants of Mr Smith Barry, M.P., accorded him a hearty welcome and expressed regret for their actions in the past, which had led to the evictions.
At the meeting of the Bank of England to-day, Mr W. Lidderdale, the governor, announced that Baring's liability was reduoed to £280,000 at the end of August. He also mentioned that no loss was expected to result to the guarantors, and the Bank of England's special liability in the estate was being reduced slowly. Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, was warmly congratulated on the successful floating of the four and a half million loan. The average price was £95 0s sid. There was an unusual number of small tenders, and individual brokers contributed £600,000, but none of the syndicates subscribed. The loan is quoted from £ to f per cent premium, and it is expected it will reach 97 shortly, and 98 before Christmas.

The Times considers the success o the New South Wales loan satisfactory evidence of returning confidence i investing. The public scrip is now at three-eighths premium. The Standard, on the other hand, asserts that the loan was not genuinely subscribed, and the public will not encourage further colonial borrowing at present. The Daily News thinks the reception of the loan a very significant warning. The Daily Telegraph only expeeted three millions to be subscribed. The loan is to be paid over by 25th September under discount of 2$ per cent. FOREICttT. Vienna, September 18. A tunnel on the Syrian Railway, near Trieste, collapsed, and 52 work* men were entombed, all ot whom it is feared have perished. Twenty dead bodies have been recovered. Ottawa, September 18. Information has reached here that a new race has been discovered at Labrador. It is believed that the Hon. H Mercier, Premier of Quebec, will resign owing to the disclosures in connection with the Baie-Chaleur Bailway scandal. The Government party are dismayed, and denounce the Hon. J, J. Abbott, the Premier of the dominion, for publishing the Hon Ager's (LieutGovernor of Quebec) letter attacking provincial autonomy. Madrid, September 18. The press advocate the Queen paying a visit to Consuegra, which has suffered severely by the floods. The members of the Government, however, oppose such a step.
Four thousand cattle which had been sent in to attend a fair at Con suegra perished in the floods, The people are suffering the greatest hardships in the inundated districts.
