The efforts of the supporters of General Boulanger to prevent the production of "Lohengrin" (Wagner) in Paris theatres were extremely violent. The audience received the opera wiMi enthusiasm, but outside a great crowd collected and made insulting references to the Emperor William's speech, and hissed the i audience. The efforts to bring about a reconciliation between the Emperor and Prince Bismarck have up to the present been unsuccessful. Both the Berlin and Vienna press regard the manoeuvres at Sigri as a rehearsal, and as a warning to the Porte. An international exhibition is projected, to be held here in 1895.
