S*r Fisher moved the adjournment of the House in order to discuss a return laid on the table of the House relating to the expenses, &c, of the Edwards euquiry, which he averred gas not in the state ordered by the HPbuse. He should, however, be quite satisfied if the return were brought down in a complete form whenever the information was obtainable. - The Minister of Justice said the return embodied all the information at the command of the Department, but he would again bring it up when further information was available.— The Hon. On the motion of the Minister for Lands this Bill was read the second time and referred to the Waste Lands Committee. OLD 80LDIKRS' CLAIMS. .-, The Naval and Military Settlers *jflßfi Volunteers Land Act Amendment Bill was then committed. LYTTELTON HARBOUR BNARD LAND BILL. This Bill went through committ without amendment, and passed final stages. The Bills committed during the afternoon were read the third time, and passed. FACTORIES BILL. The Legislative Council notified that they still disagreed with amendments made in this Bill, and a conference was ordered to be held. SCHOOL COMMITTEES ELECTION BILL.

In Committee on this Bill, clause 2 was amended as to define a householder as any .adult male or female person who has resided for three months in the district before the day of election, as owner or tenant of his or her dwellinghouse, or as a holder of miner's rights, who has had such right for the same period, or any person (resident or non-resident) who has the actual custody of a child attending a State school in the district.—On the motion of Mr Palmer a proviso was inserted in clause 8 enabling a candidate to withdraw from the contest, either verbally or in writing, previous to the ballot being taken.— An amendment was inserted in clause 9, making the provision of a ballotbox unnecessary where less than One hundred children attend the Bchool.—On the motion of Mr Saunders a provision was added to clause 13 enabling the District Board nofcJocaH for another election in case , 3S j)£ i JfcrmaUty, if they are convniced Buch informality was not wilful.—A new clause was inserted in place of clause 9, fixing the number of committeemen at a minimum of five, and a maximum of nine, who may be nominated at the meeting of householders, and there and then elected, providing the number is not in excess of tke vacancies, when a ballot will be taken, and, up to the number fixed by resolution, those candidates will be declared elected who have received a majority of votes.—Other amendments of an unimportant character were made in the Bill,
