LIBERAL PROTESTS.
The Legislative Council Mid the Labour Bills.
At the ordinary weekly meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Couiicil, held last night, the following resolutions were agreed to:— *' That this Council is of opinion (1) that the Legislative Council has shown class prejudice in dealing with those liberal, measures known as the Labour Bills which have been considered during the present session of Parliament; (2) that assuming that it is the function of the Legislative Council to leview measures passed in the Bouse of Representatives with a view to act aa a check upon hasty legislation, the majority of its nrembers have given no proof that they possess the mental fitness required to discharge the duty; (3) that the action of the Legislative. , Council in shelving the Sooieties Act Amendment Bill in the interest of the Union Steam Ship and other Companies is subversive of tha interests of existing registered Friendly Sooieties, aud inimical to those of the working classes; (4) that the Legislative Council as at present constituted is entirely out ot touch | with the democratic spirit whioh pre- : dominates in the colony; (5) that the 'Government will be fully justified in taking immediate steps to seoure fair representation of the interests of the people of the Colony in the Legislative Gounoil, with a view to prevent the mutilation and rejection by that body of measures passed in the House of Representatives by the Representatives of the people,
(Press Association.) Auckland, September & The Auckland Liberal Assooiat'on last night passed the following resolution :—" That this Association places on record its protest against action of the Legislative Council throwing out Liberal measures sentvup by the House of Representati vea.
