(United Press Association.) Rcssell, August 25. Several hundred natives are here, at the invitation of Mita Te Tai and the Maori committee, to be present at some Maori festivities, the bride being from Kawhiti, which settlement is under Mita's control. The Bussell church was crowded during the ceremony this morning, and the European choir sang a hymn to show the respect and good feeling existing. Immense quantities of food were provided, including cakes and plum puddings by the hundreds. Christchubch, August 25. The weather has been very showery since 11 this morning.
The Directors of the Taitapu Dairy Company recommended a dividend of 6 per cent for the year ending 31st July. During the six months past 68,1601bs of butter were produced at the Company's Factory. Dunedin, August 25.
Some excitement was caused recently by the statement in Court of a Mrs Robinson that she had been driven to steal articles because she and her family were starving. The matter was taken up by the benevolently inclined, and though it was shown there was little ground for her statement, furniture, bedding, fcod, &c, were supplied. It now appears, that there was pleity of food in the house, the woman has disposed of all the articles which had been given her, and the house is now bare. The oldest girl, aged 13, is being taken care oi by a lady and an attempt is being made to have the boy sent to some institution. Mr Justice Williams to-day decided that Mr Keddie was entitled to costs from Mr Kerr, who recently attempted to upset the will of Mrs Eerr (his wife) in favour of Mr Keddie. David McLeod, grocer, has Bled a declaration of insolvency. The liabilities are set down at L 3055 and the assets at L 1225, leaving a deficiency of L 1829.
