FOOTBALL.

(By Diogenes).

The Secretary of the Masterton Football Club received the following telegram from the Secretary of the Alhambras(Punedin) this morning: in consequence, as all arrangements had been made for the match. The only match to be played in Masterton to-morrow is that between the Violets and the Greytown " Hard Gases," both Junior Clubs.

The running contest for the medal presented by Mr J. Williams to the Master ton Football Club takes place on the Park Oval at 2.90 to-morrow (Saturday). The distances are 220 yards and 440 yards.

One of the members of the Bush Union team, which recently visited Masterton, writes to the Pahiatua Star as follows: As onj of the players in last Saturday's match I must correct the report of the game as it appeared in your columns, or at least remove a wrong impression re the way we were treated by the Masterton team; also as regards their play, which, although a little rough, was of a friendly nature. If rough play was indulged in I can say' Ihsi it was not with any bad feeling on their part. With .regard .4.0 the treatment, I must say that some of] the Masterton men met us at the station on Friday—thac is the Pahiatur reps—and offered to send a drag for the other players the next morning, but as only part of the team (viz, six men) were expected down it could scarcely be expected that tbey would make an imposing appearance. Also as regards to other treatment—hotel accommodation was arranged at a reduced rate. I also must not forget to remind some of the dissatisfied player 3 of the manner in which Mr Iggulden acted when Mr R. Broughton had his leg broken; in fact he did all he could do for another. One thing to be taken into consideration is the fact that the Wairarapa team did not know until Wednesday before the match that it was coming off, so that there was not time to make any real preparations. My opinion is that if we had given them time we should have been treated in a manner which no man would have complained of There was no doubt that the team which they had to play against was one of the best in New Zealand. The next time that the Bush play the Wairarapa it will be a better contest. I only hope to see as friendly a match.
