Colony had paid tbe fee, besides which the fees assisted in keeping up the libraries attached to the Law Courts.—The Minister for Public Works thought they would do well to make it clear that only the enrolment fee was meant and not the practising . fee.—Mr Buckland suggested the * free admission of barristers, and that a fee be charged for lawyers.—Mr Guinness then proposed a new clause that no person should be entitled to become a lawyer or practice the law unless he had served articles for at least three years.—The amendment was negatived by 40 to 15. The Bill was then reported, and the amendments agreed to. book purchasers' protection bill. This Bill passed through Committee without amendment —a result received with applause. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES ACT AMENDMENT BILL. ar In Committee on this Bill several important amendments were made. GAMING AND LOTTERIES BILL. The Bill was reported with amendments, which were ordered to be committed on Tuesday. The other Bills committed earlier in the evening were read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 2.40.
