THE EARTHQUAKE.
& Srora SAook.
[By Telegraph.]
(From Our Own Correspondents). Carterton, Friday. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt in Carterton last night,, preceded by a very loud noise like thunder. Grkvtown, Friday. A shock of earthquake was felt in Grey town at ten minutes past nine last night—the most severe experienced here for many years. Wellington, Friday,
The earthquake felt a few minutes after nine o'clock last night was fairly severe here. The bells in the elook tower of the Post Office jangled a bit, but the vibration of the building itself, though considerable, was a steady movement rather than a violent motion. The houses and less solid baildings felt the tremors much more, the crockery rattling, doors creaking, and so forth. I have not heard of any damage resulting.
