Messrs Lowes and lorns add to their sale for Wednesday next, 8 pigs, weaners. Tenders are invited by the Maaterton Road Board for formation on the Fernridge road. A pooket book containing a cheque is advertised as being lost at Langdate on or about the sth inat, Messrs Lowes and lorns remind our readers of their usual Saturday's sale to-morrow, the list comprising new and Becond hand furniture of every description, clothing, saddlery, poultry, ; seed potatoes, etc., ete. We notice from the Bush Advocate that MrO. Prangnell, late of Maaterton, is taking a prominent part in early closing matters at Daneyirke. It transpires that the man Priestman, whose existence was terminated in such a sad way in Maaterton on Monday, was a son.of Mr Priestman, of the firm of Priestman and Co., the well-known dredge manufacturers, of England, and for some months until the end of June the deceased was residing at the Occidental Hotal, Wellington. He first came out from England about three and a half years ago, and after stayin? a few months in the Colony, returned Home again. He arrived here on his second trip about six months ago, the greater part of his time having been spent in the South Island. I
"Trial by Jury "was repeated last night in Greytown in the Palace Theatre, and was a decided success. The first part of the programme consisted of soring, and was preceded by a a selection by the Orchestra. A part song followed, " Little Jackey Horner " by Messrs Day, 0. Beach, T. ftowse, and Shearer, and was loudly applauded. Miss Stanford saug "Dear Heart," for which she received an encore. In response she sang "At the fancy Fair." A song by Mr Flux, "The King's Minstrel," was most admirably rendered. Mons. Leon' Driver then gave a splendid exhibition of his skill, on the piano, and in response to a vociferous encore played " Way Down upon the Swanee River," which was loudly applauded. Mrs Shearer's song, "The Song that reaohed my Heart," was beautifully sung, as was also Mr J. F. Bailie's " Twickenham Ferry." Miss Stanford sang "Another Way,' and on being encored produced' the "Kissing Bridge." The part song "Tickling Trio," by Messrs Day, Wyett, and Shearer, won rounds of applause. This concluded the first pare of the entertainment. After an interval of about ten minutes"Trial by Jory"was produced. Miss Stanford took the leading part as the plaintiff, and was supl ported by about a dozen bridesmaids, al in white.' Mr W. Day was defendant Mr Q. Flux judge.Mr T. Rowse counsel Mr J. F. Bailiie usher, and Mr Nicol foreman of the jury. The paita taken by the principal characters were exceptionally good and the by play of the jurymen was immense. The musio was under the conductorship of Mr It. Y. Shearer, the Kev E, H. Wyett presiding at the piano. .. JNow is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by purchasing the extraordinary bargains in blaukets, flaunels, dress goods, and thousands of other lines at Hooper's gigantic sale now on. During the next few days we shall offer still further inducements to the public to secure some of the many bargains at our gigantic sale, by further reducing every description of winser clothing. L. J. Hooper and Co. are determined to reduce before stock-taking (which is now irrfull swing) their stock of men's and boy's clothing, shirts, hate, socks, braces, belts, undershirts, and underpants, ties, evercoats, mackintoshes, etc. They expect to clear out about one half of the present stock before the end of the 3ale. So look out tor bargains at Hooper's.
