The Times, in its political notes, says;— The familiar "sir" (short, sharp and rasping) heralds the entry of boom* . j ing Masterton on the scene, like the / jackal heralds the lion, and the pilot fish f the shark. Misterton's patriotism is in ; a sober mood this day. He cannonades ' his way through pages of natural hiotory. We hare the spider and the Mason fly t ; which "folds its arms, sir," and we 0 wonder whether the Mason fly is not also something of a gorilla. From the lower animals of prey. Masterton rises into the higher regions, and we hear denunciations of the "Aminadab Sleoka (Slioks we rather think it was, first cousins perhaps of the immortal "Olookmaker") and Deacon Skinners, who have taken to descending on the Colonies. Masterton, we regret to remark, flounders palpably in his oratory. He manages to keep np his voice, but he cannot keep up his ideas; nor can he vary them. It is a palpable talk against time, an unaccustomed exercise, let it be said to the credit of Masterton, At twenty to four Masterton can flounder nojpore, and makes way, exhausted, for the reserve.
