Our local contemporary has taken up very dangerous ground by making the question of the petition of Mr it. R. Meredith one of honor or dishonor between the petitioner and Messrs W. H. Beetham and W. C. Buchanan. It would be better if this wretched affair could be determined without imputing dishonor on either side, but if personal discredit of any kind has to be allocated it certainly will not be found lying at the door of either Messrs Beetham or Buchanan. Of course the reputation of these gentlemen is not quite at the mercy of our local contemporary, nor is it necessary in this district for us to defend it, still, on public grounds it may be desirable to make some protest or give some little explanation if we find our local contemporary repeating the falsehood he has so shamelessly promulgated.
