[By Telegraph.] (Per United Press Association) Peculiar Aooideat Napier, Monday, Patrick Doyle, aged 74, employed by the Maories, was found dead, hanging by his foot, which had got caught in the steps leading to a loft in a stable where he slept. He was under the influence of liquor when seen on Saturday. It is believed that the deceased fell over the stairs and got his foot caught, and was suffocated, in that position. Fires in Dunelia. A fire was discovered last evening in the premises of Levy and Guthrie, clothing manufacturers. They hold a policy of £520, but the amount is greatly exceeded by the value of the stock. Considerable damage was done to the stock. The shopkeepers whoso premises were below the clothing factory, Messrs Taylor (mercer), Spaws (jeweller), and Johnson (iron* monger), were the greatest sufferers in this respect. All are well insured. Five small cottages in King St. were burned this morning. MoClure, who occupied one, was rescued in a dazed condition by Constable Crawley. Taxation. Proposals. Napier, Monday. -4 The Chamber of Commerce to-day passed a resolution similar to those of the Chambers of Wellington and Christchurch, with reference to tha taxation proposals, praying the Government to re-consider them.
