A Sad End.

The Sydney papers record the mysterious death on the Illawarra railway line, on Arncliffe station, of Commander Albert James Lewington, of the New South Wales Naval Brigade. Early on Sunday morning, Juno 21, the mutilated body of the deceased was found on the railway line near Arnclifie railway station. When the last train from Hurstville reached Eveleigh on the Saturday night, it appears that the usual examination of the engine disclosed the iact that an accident of some sort had occurred, and search resulted in the finding of the mutilated body of the gentlemen named. How the accident happened is a mystery. The deceased resided at Forest Lodge, and it is not known how he came to be on the Illawarra line, although a first cla9s return ticket from Sydney to Hurstville was found on the body. On Saturday morning he made an arrangement to. go to Waverley, but nothing was said about Hurstville. The inquest was adjourned to throw some light upon the matter, and his movements after noon on Saturday ; but at the inquiry on the Ist July all that was forthcoming was the evidence of Inspector Lockyer, who travelled with deceased in a smoking carriage on the 10.12 p.m train to Hurstville on June 20. The Inspector did not apeak to him, and left the train at Rockdale, and deceased remained in the train, The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased die i from the effects of injuries received through being run over by- a railway train ; but how or by what means he came to be run over the evidence adduced did not enable them to Bay.
