PAYMENT OF MEMBERS.
Deputation to the Premier.
[By Telegraph.]
(United Press Association.)
Wellington, Thursday,
A deputation consisting of *bout twenty-two members waited on the Premier late last night and asked him if the Government could see its way clear to legislate this session in the direction of providing for the payment of members so much per annum, the payments to be made monthly, instead of the honoraria. Mr Rees acted as spokesman, and among the deputation were the Maori members, most of the labour members, and several of the Opposition. The Premier said his own opinion was that the payment of members instead of the present system was highly desirable, and he was in favour of introducing a Bill this session to give effect to the wishes of the deputation. He would, however, have to consult bis colleagues on the matter. He promised a definite answer in a day or two.
