BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Masterton Benevolent Society was held this morning, there being present Messrs Stuckey (chairman),. W. H. Beetham, Gapper and Walter Perry. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £l7 5s 4d. Outstanding and imprest accounts amounting to £6l 6s 8d were passed for\paymeHt when funds are received United District Board. Correspondence was received dealt with. An application from a widow with two children, at present residing in Wellington, asking relief, was considered, temporary'relief being granted until the applicant obtains employment. Another woman with children, whose husband is at present in gaol, wrote requesting assistance. It was" decided to graut relief to a certain amount when neeessary. The police report upon cases being relieved was received as read, and left over for ( further consideration until the next meeting. Notice of motion to* publish the names of all persons receiving assistance was left over until next meeting. During the past month two oasual cases have been dealt with, being assisted to return to their own district.
