[By Telegraph] \ United Press Association.) Licensing at Sydenham. Christohuboh, Monday, . In consequence of the appointment of Mr White as a member of the Sydenham Licensing Committee, the hearing of evidence in favor of the renewal of licenses de novo will take place. Land Settlement

Wellington, Monday. Mr Taylor, M.H.R. for Christr ' church, and Mr Forester, ex-Mayor of Sydenham, interviewed the Land Office this morning to ascertain what blocks of land suitable for settlement were available in the Wellington district. Mr Forester, who represents ■'■ a number of Sydenham people, i|T|. anxious to take up land and make a personal inspection of the land offered before returning.

Invercargill, Monday. A deputation of merchants repre--•..: sensing the Chamber of Commerce waited on the Hon. Mr Ward on Saturday to express their approval of his action regarding the proposed , reductions in inland postage. The--?'"'> opinion expressed was that correspondence was not a proper, subject for taxation for the purpose of increasing the public revenue. Mr Ward, in thanking the deputation, ~ said it was exceedingly short-flighted policy to objeot to the goots actions.
