A Native Funeral-
Marton, Monday.
The remains of Te Ruia, a Native woman of" high rank, were inteired yesterday at Porewa; the oeremony being elaborate. Kemp's Brass Band, which was in attendance, played the "Dead March in Saul" at the head of the funeral procession. It is estimated that quite a thousand Europeans and Maoris were present. I

Before its separation the Employe) s' Conference had a discussion on the financial proposals of the Government, with the result that resolutions were passed condemning the overwhelming impost of a shilling income tax, and objecting, to any difference being made between the incomes. No objection was taken to an income tax per see. but the general feeling of the meeting was that traders had got used to the property tax and would prefer to see it left alone.
