FIGHT WITH A BURGLAR.

4 Courageous Daughter.

A daring attempt at burglary was made lately in the quarters of the Captain and Quartermaster Hunt, at Lincoln Barracks, and but for the courageous conduct of that officer's daughter the affair would probably have ended in murder. About two o'clock Miss Maude Hunt heard someone moving in the room where she and her sister were sleeping. She raised an alarm, and her father, coming from his room, ssw a man attempting to escape by a window on the landing. The captain seized the intruder, who olosed with him, and exerted all his strength-to throw his captor downstairs. In the struggle | both fell together in the hall, where the burglar desperately attacked the officer with a sword bayonet. Miss Maude Hunt ran to her father's assistance, and seizing his assailant's arm, twisted it until she succeeded in securing the bayonet. She took the weapon into a adjoining room, and returning with some fire-tongs, struck the burglar several blows on the head, partially- stunning him. The man was then secured, and was soon after looked up by the guard, who had been aroused by the captain's other daughter. Captain Hunt is severely cut and bruised, and had to take to his bed. His assailant, who is named Burns, joined the Lincoln depot as a recruit three weeks ago. It was found that an attempt was also made to break into the pay office.
