A nasty acoident occurred to Mr 15. E. Chamberlain, of this town, last evening. He was driving home about eight when his buggy collided with a passing cart and he was thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining a fracture of the left shoulder and other severe injuries. Dr Hosking was seat for and reduced the fracture, and we are glad to hear that Mr Chamberlain .is now progressing, favorably. At the inquest on the tire which 1 recently oocurred at the' Island Bay Hotel, the jury returned the following verdict:—"That the fire was occasioned intentionally by O. Hansen, but the jury are of opinion that there is not sufficient evidence to commit Mrs. Hanson."
On Thursday next, tho 2nd of July, the day of the interproyinoial football match, the publio mil have the opportunity of concluding their half-holiday in an enjoyable manner by attending the exollent entertainment proyided at the Theatre Royal. Ihe programme is a thoroughly varied one, to suit all tastes. Pianoforte playing, of course, takes a fair share of it, though this is only natural, as Mr Keisenberg is anxious to show samples of his instructions as a teacher.' At the same time the pieces chosen are of a popular character, representing different stages of proficiency.; One special feature will be that all the piano solos are to. be performed without the soore, Mr Keisenberg making it his special fort tq develop the musical memory, a point ' too little attended to as a rule, Of vocalists only our very best amateurs, augmented by Mr B. Heard, the talented representative of Hoffmann and Sons, will appear, and as all have chosen new songs, a treat is in store for the audience, that those carping critics, the "gods," will ap» preciate. Offenbach's sparkling operetta, "Tho Blind Beggar," "forms an excellent second part. The part of the artful mendicants wil, be sustained by Mr. Bray as Jack' Morgan, and Mr. Ipgulden in the character of Buffies. The latter gentle-1 man being new to dramatic fame, his first appearance will be watched with interest by a large number of his friends. The orchestra of course will take its share" fn ' the proqeedhjgs. With anything like • favourable _ Weather, we have'no doubt the entertainment will be rewarded with the success it deserves. Tho box plan will be open early next week. ■ •' ' '
