At the adjourned meeting of the Sydenham Licensing Committee this afternoon the Ohairman gave the Com* roittee's decision granting a license to the Waltham Arms, on the grounds that in obedience to Mr Justice Dennißton's ruling they had token the requirements of the district into con* sideration. The Committee was of opinion that the house was theVut desirable one of all in the distrlot, as it simply did a beer and liquor trade. They were aware it was surrounded by a large number of families who, regarded it. as -an offence, and that it caused a degradation to themselves and their shildren, but under the Judge's ruling they were in:honour bound not to have any section of ths district unsupplied was reasonablo facilities for obtaining drink. TThoy therefore granted the license under a strong protest pending the deiesum of,, the Court of Appeal. With roipeot to the others the Chairman said "ff • find that there may have been ao4k" technical error or irregularity : in connection with the adjournment, at your request we, therefore intimate that the Committee intend' of their' own motion to take notice that horißes are not required in the neighbourhood as an objection to the granting of licenses."
