London, June 18
The Labour Commission held its first public sitting to-day, the Earl of Derby presiding. Messrs W. O'Brien and Justin M'Carthy gave evidence on behalf of the Dockers' Union, recommending an eight hours' limit, and the establishment ot Arbitration Boards. A strike of tailors is imminent. Vienna, June 18.
The Austrian Government is introducing measures to establish Workmen's Committees, Associations of Manufacturers, and Boards of Arbitration, with a view to induoing cordiality between employer and employed.
Paris, June 18.
The demands of the tramway strikers at Lyons have been complied with, and the strike is ended. < Sydney, June 19.
The Labour Party have received a cable from Sir George Gtey.congratulating them upon the success of their candidates at the elections.
The Sydney Morning Herald eulogises the Union Steam Ship Company's Benefit Society, and says that it fails to see how Buoh an association can interfere in the interests of the Friendly Societies, but it is easy to see how the scheme will prove detrimental to Trade Unions. The Herald hints that Unionists can hardly wonder if a course similar to that adopted by the Union Company is generally followed by the large employers of labour.
