WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16.
' Theßon Mr Buckley moved, That " a Committee of nine members be appointed to consider all Bills" that may be introduced into this Council affecting the waste lands of the Crown; with power to confer with any similar committee appointed by the House of Representatives aiul to reporrt generally upon the principles and provisions; with Mfeer to call for persons, papers, and records.
The motion was agreed to. The Hon Mr Buckley also moved for the appointment of several selec Committees.
Notice was given to introduce several motions, and the Council rose at 3.15 p.m.
HOUSEQFBEPRESEKTATIVES. WEDNESDAY; JUNE 17.
Leave of absence was granted for a week to the Hon E. Mitchelson. - In answer to Mr W. C. Smith, the Tfatffo Minister said he thought they would not be able to bring in this session a Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Act The Minister of Education said the question of assisting public libraries by further grants of money would be considered in due course. Sir George Grey entered the House amidst cheera and took his seat. The Minister for Justice said the Government had no intention at " .present of introducing a Bill to amend the Licensing Act so as to enable the members of licensing committees to preserve judicial functions by requiri ag that applications for licenses may not emanate from licensing committees. - A- number "ef new Bills were introduced-and read a first time. Mr Bees moved, "That, having regafut;-to the increasing tension betwean the interests of capital and labour .throughout tin world, the Government be requested to open with the different Governments of all English speaking communities' with' a view to the appointment "of a * 'conference to between capital and.labour, and. the State; such - conference to meet at the forthcoming Chicago Exhibition. The motion was carried on the voices. "'•
A committee' was appointed with call for persons and papers to inquire and report as to die form and working of executive Gorernmect elsewhere.The Electoral Bill was again discussed at length, Mr Hogg speaking strongly in favour of it/ The House adjourned at 10.30.
