ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs H. R. Bunny (Chairman), N. Grace, H. Braithwaite, E. Morgan, W. B. Allen, F. Gray, E. W. Dorset, G. W. Deller and A, Gallon,
Gfhe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The treasurer reported a debit balance of £469 4s 9di A general indebtedness of each Ward was read.
Receipts since last meeting were •reported to be £9 8s 7d, The ratepayers of wrote asking that jjcpetliing be done to Para road so as to it passable. The overseer of roads slated that it was impossible to do anything to the road at present. i It was decided that the ratepayers be informed of the'same. ( Correspondence ' was read as foU

for the election of the proposed bridge over the Ruamahunga river. Mr Moore, of Flat Point, com* plained that the ratepayers in that locality did not know anything about the election ofWarden for No. 3 Ward until the election was over.
From ratepayers of No, 5 Ward, requesting the Board to take no action in respect to collecting the special rate till the Beard heard both sides of the matter.
Mr Gallon, the Warden for that district, stated that unless the special rate was collected it was impossible to keep the roads in repair. , Several of the Bottlers waited on the Board in support of their protest and stated that they were quite willing to be rated providing the w hole of the Ward was rated, but they could not see the, force of paying a special rate for the benefit of a few.
Mr Gallon moved that the speoial rate be collected.
Mr Gallon gave notice of motion to move that a separate rate be levied for the purpose of clearing off the overdraft now standing against No 5 Ward. After some discussion the Warden agreed to defer the matter of the collecting the special rate until he had ascertained the feeling of tlie whole of the district in respect to the separate rate, a meeting of the ratepayers to be called at an early date to discuss the matter.
Resolved,—That Mr Jones be allowed the sum of twb pounds as a final payment for the right of road through his property. j That some ratepayers of No. 6 Ward be allowed to take meta from the Board's pit for the puvpos 6 of metalling the road on the Belvidere estate.
That Mr Zabell be informed that his complaint about the water being thrown on to his land is groundless. Mr Braithwaite moved and JVIr Morgan seconded, that Mr James. MoncriefFbe appointed rate collector to this Board. Carried.
Resolved, that, a general rate of fd in the pound be levied for the current year, and that Messrs G. W. poller and E. W. Dorset sign the cheques in conjunction with the Treasurer. Some accounts were passed for payment.
Tenders were opened for work on the Wainuioru-Flat Point road, J. Cummins' at £298 for 1$ miles being accepted. , Deller was empowered io get a creek cleared out on Park road. ; '
