Sentinel (12st) was the favorite, with Takapu (10st) next in demand. When the flag was lowered Yum Yum went a once to the front, only to yield tlie command at the first hurdle, where Takapu came away. Omata assume® the lead at the top of the hill, and at the fence had fully two lengths advantage of Takapu, and leading first on the flat, drew up to the sod wall four lengths in front of Takapu, Pamell, Neck or Nothing, Yum Yum and Ingorangi, running in a group behind the leader. The horses jumped the double hurdles and the stone wall almost together, and when the back of the course was again reached, Omata, Parnell, Neck or Nothing and Yum Yum were running abreast, Takapu having fallen away nearly last. Parnell and Omata made the running up the bill and down on to the flat, where Takapu and Sentinel fell and were thus out of the race. Parnell was still leading at the back of the course, where Bit o' Blue commenced to improve his position, gaining second place from Omata at the top of the hill, but though he made a great effort in the straight to reach the leader, Parnell never allowed him the opportunity, and coming on full of running won by 10 length, Neck or Nothing being about 20 lengths behind Bit of Blue. Nap was fourth and Omata fifth. Time, 9min 16£ sec. Dividends LlB 15s 6d and Ll6 10s. Selling Steeplechase, of 70 sovs. About 3 miles.
