EDUCATION BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday morning, and was attended by Messrs J. R. Blair, (Chairman), Or. Beetham, Fraser, Young, Brown, Buohanan, Bev J. Paterson and Dr Newman.

The resignation of Miss Laura Welch, Makara School, was accepted.

Mr E. Samuel tendered his thanks for leave of absence on account of ill health. As new committees were not elected ac Korokoro and Whiteman's Valley on the statutory date, the Board resolved that the householders should be called together again on the evening of the last Monday in June. The protest of Mr Henry Eagle, that his nomination as a member of the Maunceville East Committee was refused by Mr Vile, Chairman of the annual meeting of householders, on the ground that it was not sent in in time, was considered. The Boa d declared the election of the committee null and void, and fixed the evening of the last Monday in June as the date for another election, It was resolved to vote £SO towards the cost of erecting an aided school at Miki-miki.

A number of applications for repairs were referred to the Chairman for a report. The question of falling the bush on the school site at Rangicumau was lefc in the Chairman's hands.

The sum of £5 was voted for repairs at Hastwell, and £ls was voted tor lining at Levin schoolroom. Tenders for altering the teacher's residence at Mangaone and repairing the Parkvale schoolhouse were opened. As the amounts were above the estimates it was resolved to invite fresh tenders.

Consideration of the proposal to purchase an acre adjoining the Feathewton school was deferred for a month, as was also the question of reconstructing the schoolhouse at Tenui.

The Board opened applications for the vacant teacherships at Pirinoa, Pahiatua, and Makara and decided to make a recommendation to each committee.
