The SydonJwm Licensing Oommittct Case, 0T0U&&S of tbo Actios: Christchurch, May 19. The statement of claim in the action brought by the Sydonham botelkeepers against the Licensing Committee was filed in the Supreme Court to-day. "It alleges that no election of a Licensing Committee was held in Sydenham during 1891, as required by the Act, that the eleotion whereat the defendants claim they have been elected was void, as no local body having jurisdiction within the Syden ham licensing district had appointed a returning qfficer for the " district under the regulation of ijocalJjJleoiioou
Act; that if the election of the Licensing Committee was good the defendants have disqualified themselves from hearing applications for licenses by before being elected unlaw fully and wilfully concerting and agreeing with each-other and with members of the Sydenham Prohibition League, asfibthers who were entitled to vote and did vote, that if they would vote for them (defendants) the latter would grant no renewals of licenses in the district. Plaintiffs therefore pray that the defendants may be restrained from acting as a Licensing Committee. The case is set down for May 27. Messrs Gairick and Cowlishaw and Mr Fwner are solicitors for the plaintiffs, .
