MAJOR NEWALL.
A TESTIMONIAL. Major Newall now, Commanding the Wellington and Taranaki districts, has received through Major Slater a farewell present of £2O 7s, accompanied by the following letter:— "Christchuroh May 6, 1891." '•My dear Newall, —I enclose draft with which the officers of the North Canterbury Diatriot beg you will obtain some little memento of the years you speDt amongst us as District Adjutant, and also of the regard and esteem all ranks bear towards you. You will always be remembered in this district as one who, whilst faithfully doing your duty to the Government you served, yet never spared yourself in order to advanoe the interests and welfare of those who were fortunate enough to serve under you, and who remember you with affeotion as a 'oomrado' in the true sense of the word. Trusting you and Mrs Newall will enjoy many years of happiness—Believe me yours sincerely,
