THE WATER SUPPLY,
[TO THE BDITOB.]
Sik,—A mistaken impression appears to have got aibroad that only those candidates for seats on the Borough Council who have sworn allegiance to Mr Renall are in favor of a water supply for the Borough. Lest this should be detrimental to the interests of those who have at heart the igood of the town as a whole, I would point out that there is not a single candidate who does not favour a water sbpply. The only question is what form that supply shall take. Are the ratepayers going to sanction the control of the water by Mr Renall ? We have tried Mr Rcnall's scheme, and it has proved an abso* lute failure. Who can deny it V It will cost as much to put it in repair, i.e., kerb the footpaths and asphalte the gutters, as it would to securo an adequate supply, a supply which could be used for domestic and fire prevention purposes. Surely the public have ere this " dropped" to the intentions of the " old man." He is purely and simply a " faddist." Let us, therefore, demonstrate our disapproval of the peculiar engineering skill of " twenty-five years ago," and by our votes secure a permanent and adequate supply,—l am, etc, Ratepayer. Masterton, May 12th, 1891.
