Herrmanu, of the Cuba street Photographic Galleiy, opposite Te Aro House, Wellington, seems to be doing a thriving business, and no small number of those who visit him to have their likenesses taken are country residents. Mr Hermann is admitted to be a capable artist with special knowledge of photographic chemistry, and both i.i operating and in re-touching ho his produced some excellent work. It is to this that he owes his liberal patronage, and also to the moderate prices he charges when the excellent quality of his productions is taken into account,— Extract.

Tho City School Committee of Auckland has passed a rcolution strongly condemning tho present system of eleoting sohool committees. Tho re« solution is to be forwarded to tho Minister of Education.
In the R.M. Court this morning the vexatious system which compels persons to procure stamps for Court foes from the Post Oflice, was strongly ooromonted upon by tho' counsel, it was urged that the necousary stamps should be procurable in Court. Colonel Roberta intimated that whilst he sympathised with the victims of the Act it was not iu his power to effect an alteration.
A general storekeeper's business, in a viaine country township, with a turnover of £SOO par month, is advertised by Moasrs. McKinnon and Trin«,ham, Wellington, as being for sale. Tho same firm also publish a special list of properties which are in thoir hands for sale and of sums of money they have attheir disposal for loan purposes.
There was a good attendance at the meeting held last night at Grcytown to take into consideration the advisableness of taxing the Borough for a part of tho cost of erecting a bridge across the Waiohine to conneot Matarawa with Grey town* Resolutions in favor of the construction of a bridge were passed,,so that a vote will soon be taken ifiLifO what the ratepayers think of it. ,aM&
