LAND BOARD.
The Laud Boird met yesterday, and was attended by tho Commissioner (Mr J. W. A. Marchant), Messrs W. A. Fitzherbert, W, W. McCardle, and xV. W. Hogg. The following applications to transfer were approved :—Section 2, block 10, Mangaone, from W. H. Mnndy to J, Barlow ; section 4, block 10, Mangahao, from Z. W. Hall to A. Sandel; section 5, block 8. WaipuKurau, from F. li. Ilaselden to G. W. Collins; section 18, block 4, Apiti, from D. M'Knight to A. 11. DoJswell (if the latter is eligible j; section 68, block 14, Mangahao, from S. Hemmingway to J. K. and W. A. Tripe ; section 2, block 10, Mangaone, from C. Griffin to Mrs F. Yon Eeden in lieu of her husband; section G2, block 8, Mangahao, from M. Tanquey to VI. Herlihey. The undermentioned applications were all dealt with as described :—(Section 03, block 9, Mangaone, from Mrs W. Dwan to A. Whiteside, the ranger to enquire into the suitability of the incoming person; section 71, block 9, Mangaone, from | li. Savage to 11. Mindgway, an explanation required from Mr Savage as to the circumstances of the case ; section 21, block 7, Tararua, from ti. Wood to J. Anderson, improvements must first be done, section 75, block 5, Mungakaretu, from W. C- aud B. O'iiiley to .1. Anderson, ranger to report; section 71. block 6, Mangahoe, from JL>u Fitchett, as mortgagee to L. M.Monckton,postponed till next meeting, the Commissioner to make certain enquiries; section 14, block 8, Wairoa, held by F. P. Fooks, ranger to report. Titles were ordered to issue as follows :—A Birnie, sections 123 and 124, block 7, Mangahao ; G Baker, section 28, block 15. Onga ; J Baker, sections GO, 79, aud 79a, Hunterville; K S Herbert, section 70, block 5, Mangaone ; W Miers, section 80, block 9, Pohangina ; J Lee, sections 227 and 228, Hunterville; J Y Smith, secton 12, block 3, Wairoa, but application in regard to section 7 refused. The applications of J Sowry and F H Alleu were refused.
The Board resolvel: —That before granting ail exchange of the Village Homestead settlement sections 03, block 18, and 01, blocks, Mangahao, held respectively by G Turner and W H Payne, a report should be obtained from the steward ; that the request of C Forsberg and J H A Brock for a reconsideration of their applications to transfer their sections be refused ; that T W liudges and W J Beard be allowed to take in partners on their holdings; that 0 F Sidey be not allowed to effect all the improvemsnts required on sections 2 aud 8, block 2, Puketoi, on one section only; that the ranger see that tho bushfelling contract let by T Warner, selector of section 72, block 11, Mangahao is carried out; tluit tho request of the executors of the late W Atkins for permission to lease section HO. block 1-1, Apiti, for a term of 17 years be refused; that if J Ray, selector of part of sections (5 and 7, block d, Waiuuioru, does not comply with conditions of the Act, his interest will bo forfeited; that the seleptor of section 17, block 0, Mangaouc bo allowed time to make payments and improvements; that section "J, of SO acres, Tutaekara Native Reserve, be withheld from sale by auction uutil the laud is proclaimed Grown land, when the Board will consider the advisability of offering it for cash; that the application of Miss M B Pharazyn to alter the boundaries of her sections 1 and 0, blocks j) anji 12, Yv' aipawa and Hauranga, be approved, and that C Pharazyn be asked to explain his request iu writing; that tho interest of the selector of sectiou G, block I), Wairoa, be cancelled, and the ranger call upon the selector, aud make a report ; that the reserve adjoining section 00, block -1, Pohangina, be surveyed and reported upon aud that the Board can deal with it in the beat manner; that payment of the amounts, one on section 32, block 11, Mangaone, and section 15, block 10, Tararua, be obtained ; that the selector of section HO, block 0, Mangahao, be allowed time to pay the amount due ; that the Board has no power to make any reduction in the price of section 4, block 2, Gorge, to 10s; that thp interest of thi selector on section 13. block 10, Mangahao, be cancelled for non payment of instalments ; that 1 the explanation of the selector of section 10, block 10, Tararua, as to why a person was squatting on his sectiou is sa'isfactory; that in explanation be required from A. Eddie, who wrote stating that he had leased section 51, block 7, Maugahao, and askiug if he had any claim to the sectiou ; that T. K. York's explanation as to the reason he allowed another person to occupy his section 20, block 11, Mangaone, is satisf<io« tory;tbat the proposals of the Alfredton Road Board iu spending acoruod thirds be approved ; that in accordance with a report submitted by the Commission, the price of section 12, block 0, Mangav.'liero, be not reduced;
that with regard to E. A. Vine's application for permission to cut totora timber from reserve sections 47, 7!) and 80, blocks 12 and 18, Malum, the ranger furnish a report for future action of the Board ; that defaulters in the Wairoa andOmaliine blocks be dealt with in the usual manner ; that P. Nesdale be informed that be must comply with improvement conditions in his sections ; that the attention of the Railway Commissioners be drawn to the case of G. H. Clark, section 24, block 5, Kopuaranga, who applied for assistance in removing his house to a higher level in consequence of floods ; that J. M. Davie be allowed to reside on adjoining land to the perpetual lease section G, block 4, Mangaone ; that Mrs J. Hicks be told that there is no option but for her to comply with the residental conditions of the Act.
With referoncj to the sale of section 84a, block 7, Mangahao, under the Act of 1887, weighted with £450 for totara timber on the land, the Board resolved that the Hanger shall report as to the desirability of keeping the timber until in the future it may be required. The Under-Secretary of Crown Lands wrote stating that the Hon. Minister of Lands cannot alter his decision as to the conditions of improvements required on Village Settlement sections on deferred payments, and the Board resolved to deal with all the sections affected by tliis resolution on obtaining the Rangers' reports:
