| The revenue and expenditure for the past financial year have been made up, and show tho following results : The actual receipts for tho year in tho I" ordinary revenue account" exceeded the expenditure by £107,800 10s 2d. When the £80,508 10s Id brought forward from 1889-00 is added, the surplus of tho past year amounts to £148,005, 15s Od. Tho land fund account Bhows a surplus for tho year of £18,102, and after wiping out the deficit of £15,710 15s of the previous year, a net surplus of JE2145 5s remains.
In the ordinary revenue tho receipts, undor every hoading oxcept that of depasturing liceuses, the estimate. Land Fund receipts, ths sales for cash were £68,758 in excess of tbe estimate, and the sales on deferred payment £IOBB in arrear. The expenditure was £49,609 — nnder all heads—above the estimate, the most noticeable increase being in the item" under tbe special Acts," where the sum of £'19,140 practically represents the Jost of the second session of Parliament; in the subsidies, £14,669 above the estimates (all subsidies due having been paid at the end of the year instead of being allowed to stand over as a liability, as 13 often tbe case); aud for working railways, £27,892 extra having been spent by tbe Commissioners. The unauthorised expenditure was as follows £14,712 on defence, £11,166 on the Colonial Treasurer's Department, and £10,410 upon services not provided for.
