ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting o the Eketahuna Boad Board was held on Saturday evening last. Present Messrs Mathieson (Chairman), Anderson, Neilson and Dowsett.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. COBBESrONDENCE.

Bank oE N.Z., acknowledging re ceipt of monies. ' P. Carr wrote stating that the unfavorable weather prevented finishing his contract till next spring, as the muddy state of the roads militated against metalling.—The Clerk was

instructed to inform Mr Carr that the Board would allow him until the beginning of October next to co mplete thecontract From Richmond and Richmond on behalf of Mrs Herbert, complaining that in felling road lines the Board had felled timber on their clients land, making it impossible to fence. Compensation was therefore claimed. —Laid on the table. From Treasury re loans, enclosing vouchers. From Mr Timmins, calling Board's attention to the manner in which the balance of the loan is expended in the W. 5.8., No, 1, all portions of the settlement not being fairly treated. Considerable discussiou followed.—Mr Dowsett contended that Mr Tinimiris had good raada to his section, and the remainder ot the money should be expended on the back. Mr Timmins (he contended) ruled the Board, and he strongly objected to this.—The Chairman denied jhat Mr Timmins ruled the Board Until he was clear as to whether the uouey was dui he would not consen '

to open tenders.—Discussion of a somewhat heated nature followed. Eventually, on going into figures the Chairman stated that nothing was left in band from the loan to spend. Of the £3OO extra £2OB would be due to the back, and the remaining £9O should be spent where most needed. Tenders. For clearing 40 chains of road at Ha were S.S.:—H Rhodes L2O, (accepted), McKenzie (33 chains) L2O (declined). For bridges and culverts in the W.S.S. No I:—A McFirlane L 179 (accepted), declined—Dawson L 195, Power L2OO, J McDonald L 206. It was proposed that the Hawera bridge tenders be held over until the annual meeting, at which interested settlers be asked to be present. Decided to call tenders for formation on the Kakanui road and for the completion of Dixon's contract. RESOLVED. It was resolved to spend the sum of L 4 ou metalling in Septimus street, Parkville. Proposed that the sum of £BOO be placed on deposit in the Board's name in the Bank of New Zealand. Carried. Resolved that the annual meeting of ratepayers be held at 11.30 on Tuesday, May sth, 1891, and the annual meeting of the Board at noon on the same day. Resolved that Mr King be instructed to inspect the Central Mangahao Road East, and give the Board an estimate of the amount required to form the same, and that the Clerk inform the Alfredton Road Board as to the amount; of estimate, stating that this Board will apply for a loan of one half of the amount on receiving a guarantee from the Alfredtoa Road Board that they will provide the other half, the work done to be under the control of the Eketahuna Road Board.
