GREYTOWN HOSPITAL BALL.

The first ball of the season came off last night at Greytown at the Palace Hall and was a most successful in all respects. The Hospital Trostees must feel pleased that their • endea- j vpurs to save the South Wairarapa —presidents from a rate have been attended with such gratifying results. The large hall was filled with representatives from all over "Wairarapa, j nearly 120 couples taking part in the proceedings, Masterton being exceedingly well represented, and about 200 tickets were sold for the Gallery. The total receipts taken at the door amounted to £2O, but of coarse none of tbe tickets sold outside are jet occounted for. The decorations reflected great credit upon lit Izard and those who assisted him.. The greater part of the Hall was tastefully draped with wreaths of flowers and evergaeens. The Lower end of the building was very prettily set off with the scenery and side wings belonging to the liall. In the centre of the room a Btage artistically ornamented with cabbage trees, eyer-greens and flags, was erected for the Band. We must not omit to mention that there were several cunningly devised corners lor those who wished to " sit out.' j The music under Mr Vatnham s entire satisfaction, I Mrs WoSJpresided flt the P iaao wit j her usual skill. Misses Wood and Fuller (violinists), Mr (cornet), Mr Barnard (double bass,) and Mr Varuham (clarionet). The. " M.Cs." Messrs Wood, Loasby, Bright, and Webster carried out their onerous duties efficiendy. - The catering committee most certainly save no cause of complaint, for the supplies of good cheer that were given was ' far and away beyond their wants, so much so that ,Mr F. H. Wood will this afternoon conduct a sale of the remaining provisions, which we hope will bB well attendee 1 and bring in a substantial addition to the funds. Mesdames Tally, Fuller. McM aster and Butch assisted by seveial other ladies, deserve special praise for their untiring efforts to accomodate the wants of those who thronged the hall. The supper-table was most carefully laid out and showed that tho ladies had spared no pains to keep up the reputation that the Greytown Hospital Ball were the best in the Wairarapa. The Secretary Mr F. H. Wood worked hard to make the affair successful in a monetary point of view, and he must be congratulated upon his achievement. Dancing was kept up until half three this morning, the general opinion being that this Ball was more enjoyable, if it could be so, than that of last year.
