ALLEGED DUMMYISM.
A special meeting of the Welling* ton Land Board was held yesterday to consider a case of alleged dummy* ism with regard to a section ia the Mangahao block. According to a report frara the Under-Secretary of Crown Lands it appears the late Dfr Williams was selector of section 51, block VIII., Mangahao,. 175 acres. Before his death Dr Williams . tol4 several that Oharleß Beethapi.{-Had arranged with' him for It thrqugh Tosswill (solicitor), of Pahiatua, and that it was got in the name of Henry Ratsey. Ratsey, who is Beetham'a cook, Las now made application to acquire the title, and the Land Board has sanctioned it. Apparently (here could be'no clearer case of duminyT ism. Once acquired by Ratsey the title will be transferred to Beetham* The late doctor told plenty of the arrangement. A good deal of discussion took place on the subject, after which the I following resolution was passed on the motion of Mr Macarlhur, seconded by Sir McCardle, "That an enquiry be held into the paße,of Mr !H. the 3rd March, and also any other person the Commissioner may think necessary for the inquiry : the date to he Friday, May Ist, 1891, at 10 a.m." The Commissioner wasalso empowered to incur the necessary expensejn compelling the attendance of the necessary witnesses.
