(To the Editor.) Sir.—l beg you will give this letter space in your valuable paper. I wish to contradict the statement made by Or A. W. Renall to the Borough Council meeting on the 14th inst, re the water nuisance. He said that since November last he had found great difficulty in obtaining water for big mill supply, that he had had the creek cleaned out at his own expense, and Tayler had paid nothing, although he was entitled to pay half the cost. I deny that Or Renall cleaned out any part of the natural creek, or caused it to be cleaned out, though I admit that he had his water race cleaned out and made tour feet deep and eight feet wide for a length of 200 yards within his own property, and joining mine. The water is thence forced into this race by a dam being placed across the Waipoua river. Tnis water then passes into the natural creek for about 100 yards along my property. I had the logs cleared out of the natural-creek last year. I deny that Cr Renall cleared or caused any part of the natural creek to be cleared out since that time, and I maintain that the creek is quite wide and deep enough to carry off its own water without loss or damage to anyone, and I consider it unjust to the ratepayers that the Borough Council of ftlasterton should call upon them to clear out the creek for the benefit of Cr Renall, for him to bring in an unlimited supply of water from the Waipoua river to fill up the creek, overflowing and causing damage and loss to every one on the borders of the creek right away to the Ruamahunga river, to benefit hioi3elf. This nuisance will ever continue till the supply of water is limited from the Waipoua river. If the Masterton Borough Council consented or assisted Cr Renall to bring this water from the Waipoua river into the natural creek, they should look to him to keep the creek clear and hold him responsible for all loss and damage to all persons bordering on the creek.
