THE LAND ACT.
SETTLEMENT in WELLINGTON DISTRICT.
For the purpose of ascertaining how far the terms of the Laud Act were being complied witbwn the Wellington district, the Minister of Lands is getting a report prepared on lands held under settlement conditions in , the Wellingtou Land District. There £-< are 268 selections now reported upon in the land district under the terms of speoial settlements, deferred payments, perpetual lease, and small grazing runs. It is found that only 171 of the original seleotors still retain their titles, the other 92 having transferred. Only 97 seleotors are residing on the 268 sections, 207 have complied with the conditions as to cultivation, 41 have not so complied, and 16 have made absolutely no improvement. Thus there are 5(5 persons whose titles are liable to be forfeited. At the Feilding Speoial Settlement, out of 51 original selectors, only 35 still hold their land, 2g are residing on the sections, 81 have complied with the cultivation conditions, 17 have not complied, and three have made no improvements at all, 20 being thus liable to forfeiture.
