T,he natives were intensely delighted at the reproduction. The annual meeting of the Masterton Mutual Improvement Society took place in the WealeyunSchoolroom last evening. The Secretary's statement and report, which showed the Society to be in a sound position, was read and adopted. The following officers were olected for the ensuing session :—President, Rev. An informal meeting of creditors lu the estate of T, H. Hill, horso trainer, was held yesterday afternoon. Thero were only two creditors present, Messrs Ca*tendvko and Fooko, (£65 15s lOd) and J.' Mandel (£'/0). The Official Assignee presided. The debtor presented a writton statement whioh set forth that the immediate cauao of his bankruptcy was the pressure of a j jdgment creditor for the sum of £l4 12s. Being tho bread winner for six children and having no means to satisfy the judgment ho was obliged to file. For the last seven months ho had kept the Island Bay Hotel, but this had provod a most unprofitable business. Tho trade depended upon fine weather, particularly on Sundays and holidays, and during his term of occupation there had been no less than 18 conseoutive wet Bundays. With the exception of two debts most of his liabilities wore old debts from three to four years' standing. Examined by the Official Assignee the debM£stated Messrs Staples and Co., the i<Mp< took possession of the hotel about a 7orti>i«>ht ajio. He did not owo any ront. He took charge of the hotel in September last. He paid £SO in cash, and gave a bill f>r £B2 to cover law ousts and balance of license.. Had about £7O when he went into the hotel. Had kept no books or record of his receipts and expenditure.
